Overview
The Banff Pathology Course is a joint effort of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Alberta and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Calgary to provide a continuing medical education activity for practicing pathologists and residents.
Objectives
After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- apply knowledge acquired by a review of common topics in the practice of gynecologic pathology, including cervical, endometrial, ovarian, vulvar and fallopian tube pathology, to routine clinical laboratory practice
- understand the rationale for modifications to current cervical cancer screening practice and be familiar with the appropriate follow-up of patients with abnormal screen results
- understand new management options for patients identified with gynecologic cancers and integrate new knowledge into routine clinical practice
The course will be of interest to anatomic pathologists, general pathologists, cytopathologists and residents-in-training.
Accreditation
This event is supported as an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). This educational program has been reviewed and approved by the Division of Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) at the University of Alberta. Participants may claim up to a maximum of 16 hours.
The Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) maintains a joint affiliation with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) of the United States which the American Medical Association (AMA) recognizes for the purpose in allowing Canadian medical schools the ability to certify activities for AMA PRA Category 1 credit awarded to eligible physicians.
