The Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is the organization responsible for national certification of medical laboratory technologists in Canada. MLS students are eligible to write the CSMLS examinations upon completion of Phase 3 of the MLS program.
 
Under Alberta's Health Disciplines Act, the registration body for medical laboratory technologists is the Alberta College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (ACMLT). With ACMLT registration, technologists can use the MLT designation that is required for employment in Alberta.
 
MLS graduates are eligible to write the certification examinations of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) after receiving the BSc(MLS) degree. Employment in the USA is greatly facilitated with the MT(ASCP) designation.
 
MLS graduates may also become members of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS)
