- Official transcripts or marksheets and degree certificates from each school or university previously attended
- Three letters of recommendation
- A Curriculum vitae or Resume (please do not use the University of Alberta’s CV Form)
- A completed Research Interests Form.
- Most international applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting an original TOEFL, IELTS (Academic), PTE (Academic), MELAB or CAEL test score report to the Graduate Studies Coordinator. See the Laboratory Medicine & Pathology Graduate Studies Handbook for the required minimum scores. Please do not complete the application until this minimum score has been obtained.
Laboratory Medicine & Pathology degree programs conform to the general regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. The Department generally does not accept students with an overall grade point average (GPA) of less than 3.0 in their undergraduate years at the University of Alberta, or the equivalent qualification from another institution; and admission to the programs is competitive, with the average GPA of successful applicants being 3.5 to 3.6.
Applications will be accepted any time, however the Graduate program starts either September 1st or January 1st.
It is recommended that Canadian applicants and permanent resident applicants submit their application and ALL supporting documentation to the Graduate Studies Coordinator at least 6 weeks before the start of the term for which they are applying.
It is recommended that international applicants submit their application and ALL supporting documentation to the Graduate Studies Coordinator by the following dates:

Applicants from China (PRC) and Nigeria should submit their application and ALL supporting documentation two months prior to the submission dates listed above.
No graduate student is accepted without a commitment for financial support. Studentships from a number of granting agencies are available on a competitive basis for excellent applicants. Limited funds for support are also available from the department or from the research grants of individual investigators.
