Ms. Linda Stang, lab scientist at the University of Alberta Hospital, has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 "Aniara Coagulation/Hemostatis Technologist Award for Excellence". Ms. Stang was recognized for her involvement in clinical aspects of coagulation testing and patient care; and her numerous publications involving research, testing guidelines and clinical laboratory standards.
Dr. Judith Hugh was recently awarded the inaugural "Lilian McCullough Chair in Breast Cancer Surgery Research". In 2008, Ron McCullough, family and friends, donated more than $1-million to the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry for this research position to honour Ron’s late wife, Lilian. The donation was made on the 5th anniversary of Lilian’s death. The occasion of the Chair and the choice of Dr. Hugh has made for greater ties between the Departments of LMP and Surgery. It is hoped that this collaboration will lend itself to advances in Breast Biomarkers and individualized surgery in the coming years. The term is for 5 years with one possible renewal.
Dr. Ray Lai has been chosen "Researcher of the Year" by the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff Association. Ray’s nomination was supported by numerous colleagues in the Department of Laboratory Services and Oncology. The award was presented on October 20th at the Misericordia Hospital.
In recognition of his outstanding record of scholarly research, teaching and service to the University and community, Dr. Chris Le has been appointed as Distinguished University Professor effective July 1, 2011. This appointment is based on documentation submitted by his colleagues and students. It is clear that Dr. Le is held in the highest regard as a distinguished research scientist in the field of Medicine and Pathology, and as a dedicated and exceptional teacher.
